A nice state park featuring Schreeder Pond which has a beach for swimming (no lifeguards) and a bathroom building, a small nature center (open weekends only), many picnic tables and grills, 18 miles of trails, several small bridges, a long boardwalk over a swamp, a covered bridge reproduction, a restored non-working waterwheel, Indian caves, and old building foundations. Note: The caves are very small and the trail to them is steep and somewhat dangerous.

Located in Granby and Barkhamsted; The attraction here are the waterfalls that can be viewed from downhill trails along the stream; Address approximate; Small parking lot along Route 219; Use extreme caution. There have been many medical emergencies here due to people falling (one died). Some people swim here, but it is not advised.

Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park

A protected area in western Connecticut consisting of forest, wooded hillsides, and small meadows with 17 miles of trails. Features a 120-foot-long timber suspension footbridge over the Shepaug River. Managed by the Steep Rock Association land trust.
