Part of a barrier island along Long Island Sound; The area was an amusment park from 1892 to 1958; The beach was closed in 1996 when the bridge connecting the beach to the mainland burned. The beach reopened in 2014 and is now accessible seven days a week via free water taxi at the fishing pier on Seaside Avenue, however, visitors must walk about half a mile along a boardwalk to the actual beach area
