Located in the Basketball Hall of Fame, Max's Tavern is part of a small group of upscale restaurants based in Connecticut. Parking here is rarely a problem. The restaurant has a small outdoor seating area, but on the night I came, there was a bad odor drifting across the river from the sewage treatment plant. The inside of Max's Tavern is very nicely decorated and comfortable. Based on the menu this is a steak and seafood restaurant. They have some good fish choices, though I opted for beef.

This was my first time eating here. Salad is not included with meals. I ordered a chopped salad as a side (half-size). It was more like a coarsely chopped relish than a salad... not what I was expecting, but it was good. I ordered the 16oz Prime Rib. It was excellent, thick and tender, with the usual amount of fat. Meals only come with one side, so I had to pay extra for my others. The asparagus was good. The garlic mashed potatoes were ok, but there was almost no garlic in them. My friend got the ribeye steak (on the bone). It looked like the ribeye served at 350 Grill, but it was very chewy and low quality. My other friend got the swordfish. It was good, but small. For dessert I got the sorbetto. That was delicious.

While my meal was very good, my friends were not happy with the food or prices. I guess Max's Tavern is expensive because it's located in the Hall of Fame. In my opinion this place is way overpriced. The food is generally very good, but not all of it is top notch. I can find better deals elsewhere. Also, there are no free soda refills. They are $2.50 per glass.
