I have been meaning to try this place for years, but I often eat out on Sunday night, when they are closed. There are not too many seafood restaurants in the Springfield-Chicopee area. Masse's has been here for many years, so they must be doing something right. I like the building and the interior, although it was rather loud and echoing inside.

They have a good selection of New England seafood on the menu. I decided to try the fried fisherman's combination platter which includes fish, scallops, shrimp and clam strips. I thought the fried seafood was just below average. It had too much breading and the quality was just ok. I can't help comparing the place to Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale on the Connecticut shore. The Fish Tale is much better, but very far away from here. My friend got the Seafood Newburg. He said it was good, but lacked some flavor. His wife got the grilled swordfish. That was pretty good. The side salad was lousy, nothing but lettuce. Their homemade honey-mustard dressing scared me. It looks like a glob of whole mustard seeds. I tried it, then opted for the balsamic vinaigrette. The crab stuffed mushroom caps appetizer was good. My friend got the clam chowder and crab cakes appetizers. Both of those were good. The free rolls were not bad.

I was not impressed with the fried seafood, but I'm willing to come back again. I think next time I'll try the baked fisherman platter or the surf & turf or the shrimp scampi or the seafood alfredo.

It's been a long time since I've eaten here. I went a bit late on Saturday night. Plenty of parking and plenty of empty tables. We were promply seated and given menus.

For starters we ordered the Steamers (clams) with broth for $11.99. They were good. For dinner I ordered Pan Seared Sea Scallops ($18.99) with sweet potato fries and a side salad (I altered my order from the actual menu entrée). Salads are not included with the entrées and are $2.99 extra. We sat there for a long time after we finished the steamers. The waitress never offered us any bread and she forgot to bring my salad. When my meal arrived, I asked the meal server for my salad. The mixed greens salad with croutons and ranch dressing was good, but lacked vegetables. The pan seared scallops were excellent, some of the best I've ever had. The sweet potato fries were very good. The red pepper pistou was very good, slightly spicy. My wife got the Ribs and Shrimp ($17.99). The three huge grilled shrimp were good. The barbecue ribs smothered in BBQ sauce were good, but I've had better. Her meal also came with the sweet potato fries. We skipped dessert. The total bill for two with no drinks and with tax came to $55.60.

To sum up my experience... Parking is convenient. The restaurant is very nice, but don't expect tablecloths or cloth napkins. There is a large bar. The bathrooms are only for one person and have no paper towels. The food quality was generally above average. Prices seem on the high side when you consider that bread and salad is not included. Our waitress was pleasant, but did not come around often enough and did not bring my salad.
