In Oak Bluffs is a neighborhood of ornate houses built in a style known as Carpenter Gothic or "Gingerbread". This National Historic Landmark District is called Wesleyan Grove or Martha's Vinyard Campground or Trinity Park. The houses were built in the 1870s by members of the Martha's Vineyard Campmeeting Association (MVCMA), who were Methodists that came to worship at a summer religious retreat at Trinity Park. Most of the houses have been well-cared for or restored and are now a tourist attraction. Wesleyan Grove is only a few short blocks from the ferry dock. Visitors can see these gingerbread cottages by walking around streets such as Trinity Park and and Clinton Avenue. The address given here is for the MVCMA. These houses are privately owned, so please be respectful of the properties and their owners. There is also a small museum/gift shop at 1 Trinity Park.
